Community Services
Community Services is the county department that assists residents with social service needs and with accessing appropriate resources and services. The department assists in the following ways:
- Mental Health and Disability Services (MHDS) provides assistance, resources, and service coordination for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disabilities, or other developmental disabilities.
- Mental Health Advocate provides advocacy services to individuals placed under a mental health court commitment. The Advocate serves individuals in Hardin, Franklin, and Story Counties.
- General Assistance provides financial assistance to residents who are indigent or in crisis.
- Friendship Club is a social and educational center for individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities.
- Substance Abuse funding for indigent individuals needing county funded detoxification services.
