Hardin County is a hidden gem in the middle of Iowa farm country. We have many fantastic areas for you to get outdoors and explore recreation opportunities. Whether you're into bird watching or geocaching, canoeing or hunting, shopping or dining, Hardin County has something for everyone.

While you’re here, be sure to check out the museum at the Calkins Nature Area, complete with a renowned Native American Artifact Collection and several other amenities. You are going to want to see the Sac and Fox Overlook with its impressive views or spend a weekend in one of our cozy log cabins near Steamboat Rock.

Iowa Falls

Located on some of the most beautiful stretches of the Iowa River, Iowa Falls is truly a place you can fall in love with! Take a stroll in one of their city parks, or paddle the river, ride the Scenic City Empress, or spend some time in the local shops and restaurants. Visit the Pat Clark International Art Collection and historical sites (like The Popcorn Stand) or take the walking tour of the historical downtown district, featuring the restored Metropolitan Opera House.

Eldora

The Home of Pine Lake State Park welcomes visitors to explore Eldora and the surrounding Greenbelt area. Camping, fishing, canoeing, and hiking are just some of the activities you can enjoy while exploring Pine Lake. Take a walk on the miles of trails around the lake dam or stay in a cozy camping cabin. Take a break and visit town where you can swim in the Eldora Aquatic Center after visiting the Welcome Center at the east end of town. Walk along the historic downtown and dine at the Ahoy Fountain for lunch or grab a bite to eat while bowling at Eldora Bowl.
