Voter ID

During calendar year 2018, voters will be asked to show their ID before voting at the polls. Anyone who does not have the necessary ID will be asked to sign an oath verifying their identity, and will be allowed to cast a regular ballot.

Beginning January 1, 2019, Iowa voters will be required to show a driver’s license, non-driver’s ID, passport, military ID, veterans ID, or Voter ID Card at the polls before they vote. Voters without the necessary ID will be offered a provisional ballot and can provide ID up until the time of the county canvass of votes (Monday after election day for Primary and General Elections).

Absentee Voting

You can vote by absentee ballot in-person at the Hardin County Auditor's office from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning on October 19, 2022 until November 07, 2022. Absentee Ballot Request Form (PDF)

The Auditor's Office will also be offering in-person absentee voting at the Courthouse in Eldora, Iowa, on:

  • Saturday, November 05, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Absentee ballot requests by mail must be received in the Auditor's Office by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022.

Registration

The pre-registration deadline is October 24, 2022. In Iowa, you may register and vote on election day. You must go to the correct polling location for your current address on election day.

Voter Accessibility

Voters may choose another person to assist them with voting, except their employer, employer’s agent, or an officer or agent of the voter’s union. Curb-side voting is available at each site for voters unable to leave their vehicle. Voters wishing to use the curb-side option should contact the voting site or County Auditor’s Office at 641-939-8108 with an expected time of arrival. Absentee voting is available at the courthouse until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022.

To vote in Iowa, you must be registered to vote. To qualify to register to vote, you must be:
  • A U.S. citizen
  • An Iowa resident, AND
  • At least 17 1/2 years old (must be 18 years old by election day to vote)
