Hardin County Conservation has way for you to get closer to nature - a mobile wildlife observatory. This is a small camouflaged trailer behind which people can sit to watch wildlife – often birds – without scaring the animals off.
The project was spearheaded by former Eldora resident and philanthropist Bob Gunderson, along with friends and family of Charles Ruby (including his brother, Dean Ruby). They wanted to encourage visitation of the land Ruby — the late farmer and avid supporter of wildlife — had donated and sold to Hardin County Conservation, through construction of a permanent bird blind at the Ruby Wetlands near Steamboat Rock.
