Hardin County participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Because we participate in this program, Hardin County residents are able to purchase federal flood insurance and are eligible for various federal loan and grant programs. As part of this, the county is required to regulate all development within the floodplains of Hardin County. As such, everyone who has experienced damage from flooding and is making repairs to their home must obtain a Floodplain Development Permit from the Hardin County Zoning Department.
Failure to regulate floodplain development could result in Hardin County being suspended from the NFIP and result in the denial of flood insurance and other federal benefits for Hardin County residents.
