The Hardin County Emergency Management Commission on April 21 hired Thomas A. Craighton to fill the role as Hardin County Emergency Management Coordinator. Thomas comes to Hardin County with 6 years’ experience from Franklin County Emergency Management and 34 years Emergency Medical Services Manager at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton before that. Thomas is active in Fire Service as a Firefighter-II and Fire Instructor-I. Thomas has been active in the Iowa Emergency Management Association and will take the reigns as President in July 2019.l Previous he has served as Secretary and !st Vice President.
Thomas' office is at 1301 Edgington Avenue in Eldora.
Thomas’ work involves planning, responding to, mitigating, and recovery for Hardin County. This includes the communities and the unincorporated areas of Hardin County. As part of these duties he is responsible for Damage Assessment and Command and Control of resources for response to many types of disasters.
In the Planning it includes plans with communities, schools, fire, EMS, hospital and other non-governmental agencies.
Thomas brings years of experience in Incident Command, Emergency Medical Services, Teaching in EMS, Fire, Incident Command and other Homeland Security topics.

Thomas and his wife Dawn currently reside in Hampton but are working on moving to a residence in Hardin County.
